December words of the Month: Patience and Self-Control
Dear Nipomo Elementary Families,
As the calendar year 2025 draws to a close, I am writing to express my sincere gratitude. Our first trimester has been full of incredible growth and achievement! I am so proud of our students for their hard work, dedication, and the amazing progress they have made. We understand that a successful school year is a true team effort. Thank you for all you do! Make sure you give your teachers a special shout out as well! They have been diligent in ensuring students have success at school.
We wish you and your family a restful, joyful, and safe holiday season and a Happy New Year. May the break provide a wonderful opportunity to recharge and spend quality time together. We look forward to welcoming the students back in the new year, ready for the exciting challenges of the 2026!
Warmly,
Jennifer Elisondo

English:
Dear Families,
With Winter Break approaching, we need your partnership in monitoring your child's screen time, especially use of platforms like Roblox, Fortnite, and YouTube.
We are seeing concerning effects in the classroom, including struggles with attention, emotional regulation, and frustration.
Why This Matters for Elementary Kids
The elementary years are crucial for brain development. Fast-paced video games and excessive screen use can overstimulate the brain's reward center, making it difficult for children to focus on slower, necessary tasks like learning and face-to-face social interaction. This impacts their behavior and their ability to thrive at school.
Action Steps:
Set Clear Limits: Establish and enforce specific daily time limits for all devices and games.
Protect Sleep: Ensure a hard stop to all screens one hour before bedtime to support healthy sleep.
-
Encourage Alternatives: Help them fill free time with vital developmental activities:
Creative Play: Reading, building, and crafts.
Physical Activity: Outdoor time and sports.
Family Connection: Board games and conversation.
By actively balancing screen time, you are supporting your child's critical developmental needs and ensuring a successful return to school.

Estimadas Familias:
Pasos a Seguir:

Thank you for your continued support with our wellness policy. Please review the Wellness Policy here.
Classroom parties will need to follow Smart Snack Nutrition Standards. This means you will NOT be able to bring cupcakes, pizza, cookies, homemade goods, etc. to your student's classroom.
Please send healthy snacks to school with your student. If you are not sure what is healthy, you can use this Smart Snack Calculator. Students should NOT be eating chips, candy, cookies, or drinking coffee drinks when they walk on to campus and during school.
We will continue to work together to ensure are students are safe and healthy while at school!
