Words of the Month for March: Honesty and Integrity

Message from the Principal

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

As we welcome the first hints of spring, March brings a sense of renewal to our school. This month, our school focus is centered on two pillars of character: Honesty and Integrity. At our school, we believe that education isn't just about what you know, but who you are. Having integrity means doing the right thing even when no one is watching. Whether it’s being truthful about a mistake or choosing to follow school rules—even the small ones—these choices build a community of trust.

We are asking our students to reflect on how their actions impact those around them. Following school rules isn't just about compliance; it's about showing respect for our shared environment and ensuring everyone feels safe and ready to learn.

Springing Forward

Please remember that Daylight Saving Time begins on Sunday, March 8. We will be "springing forward" one hour.

While we gain more evening light, the loss of an hour of sleep can be a challenge for students (and adults!). To help our students stay focused on their goals of integrity and excellence, we recommend:

  • Gradual Adjustments: Shifting bedtimes 15 minutes earlier over the next few days.

  • Morning Sunlight: Opening the blinds right away to help internal clocks reset.

  • Patience: Giving ourselves a little extra grace as we adjust to the new rhythm.

Thank you for your continued partnership in helping our students grow into individuals of high character. Let’s make this a month of truth, respect, and bright new beginnings!

Warmly,

Jennifer Elisondo

Principal

English:

Hello Families!

This month, we are focusing on two values that build a strong foundation for our students: Honesty and Integrity. While they go hand-in-hand, we like to think of them this way: Honesty is telling the truth, while integrity is living the truth—even when no one is watching!

In the Classroom

At school, we’re encouraging students to show integrity by doing their own work, admitting when they’ve made a mistake, and standing up for what is right in the hallway or on the playground.

At Home

As parents, you are the ultimate role models! You can practice these values together by:

Owning the small things: If you accidentally break something or forget a task, "thinking out loud" about how to fix it shows kids that being honest is more important than being perfect.

Praising the process: When your child tells the truth about a tough situation, celebrate their courage! It takes a lot of heart to be honest when it’s difficult.

We are so proud to partner with you in raising kind, principled humans. Let’s keep the conversation going!

Warmly,

Ms. Baza

Spanish:

¡Hola, familias!

Sra. Baza

Library

Hello Tiger Families!!

For the month of February and March we will be reading and voting on the California young reader Medal Award books. This is always fun to see what types of books the students of our school find most entertaining. If you would like more information about the books and the nominees as well as past winners please feel free to check out this website.https://www.californiayoungreadermedal.org/ Two days a week I am open at recess for the students to play games, read and do crafts. For February I have some valentines and kindness week crafts. For March I have some flower crafts because we will be using them to decorate the bulletin board in the office for the month of April.

2026 Safe Routes to School Family Survey

Hello,

It is time for the 2026 Family Survey! SLO Regional Rideshare is asking Nipomo Elementary parents & guardians to share their thoughts on how to make their school commute safer! The survey should take about 5 minutes to complete and will help inform decisions regarding infrastructure improvements and programs surrounding pedestrian and bike safety around schools. The survey responses will be kept confidential, and no names will be associated with any results. The school with the highest response rate will win a fun filled Bike event; to be determined based on school age.

We are asking that schools, parents, and staff members share the attached flyer. We want all voices to be heard- the survey is available via the link or QR code in both English and Spanish.

If you want to support our safe roads, you can attend the county board meeting at the Government Office in downtown SLO at 1055 Monterey St on Tuesday @ 9:00am. You can sign up to speak and let our county supervisors know your concerns!
